Some excellent comments here on thinking through writing for thought leadership. I liked your piece on leveraging best customer case studies. One thing I also tell clients is "find and write about your smartest customers -- the ones who are doing the most innovative/profitable things with your technology and in their industry." That not only gives your product/service more credibility (by being linked to a market leader) but provides business value to the reader over and above the information about your solution.
